John Hampden Randolph
John Randolph was born in Nottoway County, Virginia to a wealthy family. He then later in life, moved to Woodville, Mississippi. There John met his wife, Emily Jane Liddell. They married in December of 1837. Four years later they moved to Louisiana to build a plantation where they could raise a family and begin their lives together. While in Louisiana he changed his crop from cotton to sugarcane, he knew that is where the money was. John then lived in the home until he died in 1883.
The Girls
Emily and John had seven girls. Ella Eugenia, Mary Augusta, Emma Jane, Cornelia, Sarah Virginia, Annie Carolina and Julia Marceline. Cornelia was the most famous of all the children for publishing her journal that she kept while living at Nottoway. She published it under the penn name of M.R. Ailenroc.
The Boys
Emily and John also had four boys. Algernon Sidney, Moses, John Jr. and Peter Everett. Algernon Sidney was the only son who died in the Civil War, the rest of the boys went on to marry and have families of their own.
